7cb1d79195 A clumsy high school girl is looking to change herself. She finds a brochure for a school of magic with a powerful head magician that specializes in magic related to computers. This series opens with silver-haired school girl Yumiko deciding that she has had enough of being picked on in school; she has inherited this trait from her great-grandfather along with a spell book and a staff. She decides to go to magic school but on her way she meets a man who is determined to kill her! She is helped by Koyomi; a girl with a strange magical power; she can convert other people's spells into a metal bathtub! She has never seen Koyomi before but Koyomi has clearly met Yumiko before. Things then get a little bit confusing as the action jumps forward five years to the time Koyomi first meets Yumiko not surprisingly it is soon explained. The main events of the series take place in this later time period; here Yumiko has become a powerful mage using traditional magic. The two of them work with Misa; a mage who uses modern magic that is magic written in computer code and executed when needed.<br/><br/>Girls with magical powers are a staple of anime but this manages to be a little different with the use of computer programmed magic although the magical fights are fairly standard whichever sort of magic is being used. Koyomi's skills are the most entertaining as bathtubs falling from the sky is inherently funny. The opening is intriguing; I was really surprised when it turned out that Yumiko wasn't the main character. Once the characters have been introduced we are gradually shown various aspects of the magical world until the final few episodes where an antagonist, who wishes to reincarnate an ancient dangerous mage, emerges leading to a series of magical fights. The characters are fairly standard as are many of the situations although the way Misa prevents a plane crash is both original and hilarious! Over all this is a fun if ultimately fairly forgettable series but as it is only twelve episodes it is worth checking out if you aren't after anything too deep.<br/><br/>Of minor interest there are little extras after the 'coming in the next episode' section; these feature puppets of Koyomi and Misa discussing aspects of the show or plugging CDs and DVDs.<br/><br/>These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
